Agroecology and Metropolis

SEMINAR

March 12, 2024

Conference Room

Madrid School of Architecture ETSAM

Universidad Politécnica de Madrid

The seminar «Agroecology and Metropolis» proposed a critical reflection on the emergence of new landscape and social infrastructures linked to agroecology in Madrid, examining the historical evolution of the relationship between the city and the agri-food system and its urban, spatial, and landscape effects.

“Agroecology and Metropolis” sought to critically examine the implementation of Madrid’s new metropolitan landscape and social infrastructure linked to agroecology. To this end, it proposed, on the one hand, to examine the historical and critical dimensions of the relationship between the agri-food sector and the city, with an emphasis on its spatial, urban, and landscape effects. On the other hand, it studied the architectural and programmatic needs of the new public spaces within the Madrid City Council’s Producer Neighborhoods program, in collaboration with the network of stakeholders that promoted it.
